INDIALUCIA – a fascinating fusion of Indian music and flamenco.
INDIALUCIA – a music project combining two fascinating music styles: Indian music and flamenco. The project was launched in 1999 in India among teachers and students of the Music Academy in Nagpur. A lot of excellent musicians from both continents took part in the project. The initiator, producer and artistic director of Indialucia is the guitarist Michał Czachowski. The meeting of music styles resulted in releasing an album in 2005, which was well-received in Poland and internationally. The album was awarded Wirtualne Gęśle and Folkowy Fonogram Roku, administered by Polish Radio for the best album of 2005, and was nominated to the 2006 Fryderyk Award in the category of the Album of the Year – Folk/Ethno. In 2007 the album was ranked at the second place on the list of World Music albums in the USA. The music was used as a soundtrack for the Hollywood film The Boondock Saints II. In 2015 Indialucia’s brand new album Acatao received Folkowy Fonogram Roku given by Polish Radio for the best album of 2014.
The fusion of the Spanish Romany music and Indian music may seem exotic, however, if we remind ourselves that this people arrived at the Iberian Peninsula right from India, we may assume that their project is the return to the roots which can be compared to the first revolutionary meetings of European and Asian musicians of the 60s.
The band has played over 300 concerts on four continents, including India, Mexico, the USA, Russia, Singapore, Oman, Columbia, Spain, Turkey, Austria, Germany, England, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Romania.
